Welcome to LaCount Law, a boutique business law firm specializing in national and international transactions and arbitrations involving information technology, intellectual property, software development and licensing, internet and ecommerce transactions, life sciences and other advanced technologies.

Technology-based business transactions, including the sale and acquisition of related intellectual property assets, and international trade and distribution matters have been the heart of Stephen LaCount’s practice since moving to California to become general counsel at AST Research, a top-tier personal computer company that was acquired by Samsung Electronics. 1990 marked Stephen’s career transition from “in-house” to law firm practice where he spent 15 years as senior partner or counsel in two national law firms ranked in the “top 100” prior to establishing his own firm in 2005.

As a longstanding member of the National Roster of Neutrals, Stephen has arbitrated a wide variety of disputes involving software development and intellectual property rights (including patent and trademark license disputes), franchise terminations, supply chain disruption, and technology-related agreements and ecommerce transactions.

Stephen H. LaCount is one of Southern
California's best-known tech transactions and international trade and distribution lawyers. During his career as an in-house counsel and law firm partner, he has represented clients ranging from start-up entrepreneurs to large multinationals.  He currently serves as part-time faculty teaching business law classes at Cal State Fullerton.
